As the country came out of lockdown and restaurants took part in the Government Eat Out to Help Out scheme, Showsec worked with Cardiff City Council on a street dining initiative.

From the last weekend in July through to the end of September, the Castle Street area was closed to traffic and transformed into an outdoor dining hub. socially distanced circles on the lawn adjacent to the castle wall, and alfresco seated street dining area.

With involvement in planning meetings for some time before the initiative launched Showsec worked alongside the council management team and was integral to the visitor experience through security and customer service functions including ensuring social distancing was taking place, queuing and assistance with the app.

Martin Lewis, Showsec Area Manager for Wales and the South-West commented: “Showsec has a long-standing relationship with Cardiff Council as a preferred supplier for events across the city so it was great to be involved in this initiative whilst events are on hold. Everyone has worked hard to make this happen and the adaptability and flexibility of the area staff has been commendable.”
