August saw the 2020 Formula 1 Pirelli British Grand Prix and Emirates Formula 1 70th Anniversary Grand Prix take place at Silverstone over two consecutive weekends, although in understandably different formats as the races took place behind closed doors.

Showsec worked on the Boulevard Operation for people arriving to the site including all teams, drivers, staff and contractors on site. This involved checking personal and vehicle accreditation, using IR guns to check temperature of all entering the site and profiling, identifying and directing vehicles for search.

On site, Showsec also worked in the National Paddock ensuring the security of teams and drivers for the support races; F2, F3 and Porsche Supercup.

Alex Lacey, Operations Director at Silverstone commented, “This year’s British and 70th Anniversary Formula One Grand Prix events at Silverstone are certainly ones which will go down in history.

“From the prospect of 350,000 visitors, descending on us over the British Grand Prix event weekend to the decision to hold two events behind closed doors is one which needed thorough planning and co-ordination.

“Showsec has been at our side throughout the whole process of inception to completion and have contributed to what turned out to be a massive success, given the circumstances. It was a pleasure to have the Showsec team back on site and we are grateful for the attention to detail and quality of service that they bring. “

Richard Church, Showsec Regional Operations Manager said,” It’s been a real challenge for all those involved in the remarkable concept of F1 behind closed doors.

“The Showsec team on the ground, led by Mike Poole, have worked tirelessly with Silverstone to ensure the security of the circuit in these unique circumstances.

“Throughout my time spent with the Joint Command team, Silverstone Circuits Ltd and the Police, they have praised the entire Showsec operation from Covid Security on entry, to perimeter protection throughout the live periods of racing. A truly historic performance for the history books.
